Eliot & Benjamin

PBS has a new series Dinosaur Train that is a big hit with my boys. I want to thank it for teaching my boys the concept of a hypothesis as "an idea you can test." Not only does Ben say "hypopipis" he totally gets the concept. It was warmer weather today (all relative in winter), so we decided to pretend it was springtime and go to our favorite spot, Forbidden Drive. As you can see, I am very glad I came prepared with waterproof boots and snowpants. On the drive over, we each created our own hypothesis about what we might find there. Some ended up true, some didn't (as Eliot said, "it's okay if it isn't true, that's why we test it." Awesome. Again, thank you Dinosaur Train). Eliot quickly developed a new hypothesis in regards to this broken fence. He thinks the heavy snow broke it. He is probably correct, but I wasn't quick thinking enough to come up with a true test. We wanted to throw rocks in the river. But there were two issues: 1. we couldn't make it down to the river. 2. the rocks were all hidden under snow. So we went for the next best thing, giant sticks. They were pretty excited. However when faced with the fence, Eliot decided to just drop it in. On the way back, I opted for fun over laundry concerns, and the boys had a hysterical time playing in the mud. Ben decided to jump on Eliot when he fell. Ben had his own "I've fallen and can't get up" moment. Eliot laughed so hard he decided to join him on the ground. Needless to say, the boys were COVERED in mud. The car strip down was pretty funny, but I was alone so couldn't capture it on film. Ben finally had had enough. On the way out they of course needed a picture of their leaves they couldn't bring home.
